New England Patriots Miss the Mark with New Uniforms

The New England Patriots released new uniforms today for the first time in the past twenty years. Not so coincidently, the team will also be losing Tom Brady after twenty years. While turning the page on the Brady era, apparently the team wants to solidify this with what was assumed to be a new look. It makes a whole world of sense and many people were anticipating how much of a change the new uniforms would offer. Many people now find themselves underwhelmed.

The Patriots “new” home uniforms are the same uniform they have been wearing since 2016 as an alternate uniform. The new navy blue on navy blue was originally conceived under the NFL’s “Color Rush” promotion for teams playing on Thursday nights. It is a blue jersey with a white stripe outlined in red on each shoulder. The Patriots logo also appears to the outside of the stripes. The pants are the same navy blue with the same stripes carrying down each leg. So essentially, these alternate uniforms received a promotion to full-time and now we will be seeing a lot of blue during the Patriots home games.

The road uniforms will be white with a similar stripe on each shoulder pad with the Patriots just outside of it. The difference in the stripe is on the white uniforms, you will see a navy blue stripe that is outlined in red. The pants are the exact same as the home uniforms.
Patriots fans were hoping for a return of the old Pat the Patriot logo along with something similar to the red jerseys they had grown accustomed to seeing Pat the Patriot with. The difference with the logos is the current logo is just a head and the old Pat the Patriot logo had him hiking a football. The reason given for not including the red uniforms or the old logo is the silver helmet the team currently uses. They did not want to switch to a white helmet and thus didn’t like the thought of red mixing with the silver.

The new uniforms are not horrible and are certainly far from the worst in the NFL. They are just underwhelming after a tease and thoughts of something new. Fans seem to find them too simplistic and the stripes on the shoulder pads have received a resounding thumbs down. Now that the new uniforms are here, what do you think?
