NFL Week 7 – Which Team Made the Biggest Statement? With week 7 in the NFL just about wrapped up, let’s take a look at some teams that had needle moving performances during this week’s set of games. It is easy to wonder, which team made the biggest statement with their win on Sunday. Green Bay Packers – the Packers blew out the Oakland Raiders at home on Sunday 42-24. Green Bay is now 6-1 and firmly in the driver’s seat in their division. The most important result from Sunday’s game was that both the offense and Aaron Rodgers came to life in this game. Rodgers threw for five touchdowns and ran for another touchdown. Rodgers did all of this without Davante Adams in the lineup and with his other two starting receivers injured and looking like they may not play until late last week. The WWE held a draft beginning with Friday Night Smackdown on Fox last Friday October 11th and culminating on the USA network during Monday Night Raw this past Monday October 14th. The event was a ratings attention grab and promised to be a monumental shift in the course of the WWE. Every wrestler in two different pools was available for each “brand” to draft during each of the two shows. What we saw was underwhelming and ever changing. On the Smackdown night of the draft, there was a match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins to determine if Smackdown or Raw would get the first pick. Since the format was already given that Raw would get 3 picks for every 2 Smackdown picks, it only made sense for Raw to get the first pick rather than have an order of Smackdown-Raw-Smackdown-Raw-Raw for the draft picks. The 2019 NBA draft was a very important draft for the Boston Celtics. The team seemed at a breaking point with Kyrie Irving seemingly already gone and Al Horford just opting out of his contract and into free agency. With three first round draft picks, the Celtics had the ability to signal a rebuild or try to make a move with their draft picks for a more established star or at least more established player. None of the Celtics actual picks were going to bring back a superstar whether they were offered together or separately. In the end, the Celtics made five picks on draft night and came away with some promising potential role players. Here is a breakdown of the picks: ROUND 1 No. 14: Romeo Langford, G, Indiana, 6-6, 215 pounds. Langford was a highly regarded high school player in the state of Indiana. The Atlanta Falcons are now 1-4 after losing in Texas to the Houston Texans this week. This latest embarrassment was by a score of 53-32 and the score was not misleading. Although the Falcons offense made it close at times, the defense never looked like it could make a stop if Houston needed points. The Falcon defense let Will Fuller look like Randy Moss in this one as he had 14 catches for 217 yards and three touchdowns. The Texans had 592 yards of offense overall and had their way in this one. A talented unit received no resistance from Atlanta. The question now is, can Atlanta’s season be saved? The Falcons now have let Jacoby Brissette, Marcus Mariotta, and Deshaun Watson look extremely comfortable over the last three losses. Now they will be looking at a winnable game against rookie Kyler Murray in Arizona before back to back potential massacres against Jared Goff and the Rams and then Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. The Miami Hurricanes football team fell to a 2-3 record yesterday after a heartbreaking and disappointing home loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies. What made it heartbreaking was a big comeback of 28 points that included taking the lead late in the fourth quarter. What made it disappointing for the team and fans was seeing Miami down 28-7 at halftime. The team turned the ball over on each of their first four possessions and was repeatedly booed by their home crowd. The score was bad enough, but it did not truly indicate just how much Miami was dominated in the first half. This despite playing at home against a Virginia Tech team that had been blown out at home by Duke just the week before and that was also starting a new quarterback. Miami should have never had a chance to even win this game and is now sitting with their worst record through five games since 2011. This is not what was expected this year. The Cincinnati Bengals have turned into an unmitigated disaster after being blown out by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football to close out week 4 in the NFL. Although this is their first season under head coach Zac Taylor, it is now safe to wonder if it is already time to pull the plug on the Bengals for this year. The team is winless at 0-4 and although they seemed feisty to start the season, the results have gone through a consistent decline over the last few weeks. Receiving a drubbing by none other than the previously winless and Mason Rudolph-led Steelers may be the beginning of the end of the current season for these Bengals. One has to admit that to call a season over after only the first quarter of the season does seem to be a bit hasty.
