Troy Smith? Really?

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that Troy Smith will get the start for them this Sunday when they play the Denver Broncos in the NFL's annual game in London. Smith is replacing a Smith, as Alex Smith will be unable to go due to a shoulder separation that occurred this past Sunday in the San Francisco loss to Carolina. It is hard to remember how once proud the San Francisco franchise was and how accustomed to winning that it was as it struggles through a 1-6 start so far. Head coach Mike Singletary has to hope that Troy Smith can step in and become Steve Young for this team to have any chance at making a run for the playoffs. Young once replaced an injured Joe Montana amid little to no expectations, and that worked out greatly. Maybe this will as well. Smith does give them the mobility factor that previous backup David Carr did not, and Troy Smith had the benefit of not playing Sunday against Carolina and looking poorly against them which Carr did. All in all, after what we
Manny Being Manny Part Two? It is possible that Manny Ramirez could hit waiver wires within the next week as the Los Angeles Dodgers look to move one of the best right handed hitters of our time. Although Manny is older and the risks seem to outweigh the rewards at this point of the season and in his career, there are teams out there that may take a chance on him in hopes that he can add some extra pop to their offense. For all of the negative that has come across Manny since his forced exit from Boston, he has shown that he can still be productive when healthy and committed to the cause. There has been talk and speculation that a team may put a claim on Manny just to block him from potentially winding up on other teams that may be able to use his bat. Teams that put a claim run the risk that the Dodgers will take the option of letting Manny go simply to save on the money left on his contract for this season. The Dodgers also have the option of trying to work out a trade to the

The CP3 Saga: the Beginning

Yesterday came the report that a source close to Chris Paul indicated that he will implore an aggressive exit strategy and force his way off of the New Orleans Hornets basketball team. " CP 3" as he is nicknamed has seemed to have grown increasingly frustrated over the last couple of years with the direction that the team has gone in and he does not want to be part of any impending rebuilding project that may result from the team's current roster. It seems that the recent joining of super powers in Miami has caused Paul to yearn for his own formation of all star players as it has been reported that he wants to be traded to a team with at least one all star. Is it fair for the Hornets to even have to contemplate a trade of the face of their franchise with two years still left on his contract? I would say no, but that is the world that we live in and the athlete that we have to deal with in our world today. So barring an ability to get Paul to buy into the new coaching sta

Is Lebron Worth It?

Lebron James is a man and phenomenon all wrapped into one. He is the most buzz worthy and marketable basketball player since Michael Jordan. Lebron was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a senior in high school way back in 2002, and the hype machine has only been spun into greater motion since then. His impending free agency has been a topic of conversation since 2007, and now that it is finally almost here, it seems to have grown into THE sports story of the year. Most people wonder where he will and who will win the Lebron sweepstakes, but I feel like the big question is this: is he really worth it? No matter where he goes, he will have more money than most of us can ever dream of and that is just in his first season. “King James” can either stay with his current team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, for a maximum contract of six years and $125.5 million or sign with another team for a maximum contract of five years and $96.1 million which is a salary drop that I would love to be ab
